Authorities catch a sick alligator from New York home
American authorities found a sick alligator being kept in a New York house against the law on Wednesday.
The animal was found at a house in Hamburg, south of Buffalo by officers of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
The alligator is 30 years old, weighs 750 pounds and is 11 feet long. The reptile has blindness in both eyes, spinal complications, and other health problems.
The owner had installed an in-ground swimming pool for the alligator. The animal owner also permitted individuals, including children, to experience a moment in the water with the reptile that can be harmful to the people, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
“After the seizure of the animal, the reptile was sent to a licensed caretaker until a place was found where it could receive permanent care,” a release from the Department said.
The state license to keep the reptile expired in 2021. The state decided to look further into the matter as the alligator’s place failed to meet safety standards. Authorities seized the animal after knowing that the owner was endangering the public.
State environmental officials are unsure whether to press charges against the owner.
