Father held responsible by court for US school shooter’s actions
The father of Michigan school shooter, James Crumbley, has been convicted for responsibility for their son’s actions. Ethan Crumbley has killed 4 children and injured 7 by shooting in November 2021.
The jury has noticed that the father was also the reason behind his son’s heinous crime. James Crumbley was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.
Crumbley’s lawyer defended him, stating that he had no idea this situation would happen. When this situation occurred, Crumbley rushed home from his job and also searched for the weapon.
“Crumbley bought his son a gun and failed to lock it away from him. To make her point, McDonald took the murder weapon from a courtroom table and threaded a cable lock through it, a process that took about 10 seconds,’’ Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in her closing argument.
James Crumbley ignored his son’s plea for mental support and bought him the handgun that he used in the November 2021 attack.
It was shown in the trial that Crumbley’s son scribbled entries in his journal and text messages to his friends.
One page of the journal reads that Ethan confirmed the shooting as he had access to the gun with went to prison for life. Ethan also wrote that many people would die on that day. He also doodled ‘Help Me’ and ‘Blood Everywhere.’
Ethan has killed 4 students Tate Myre, Hana St Juliana, Madisyn Baldwin and Justin Shilling ages 16, 14, 17 and 17 respectively. He also injured 7 students.
The gunman’s parents James Crumbley, 47 and Jennifer Crumbley, 45 were found guilty by the Court in a mass shooting carried out in the US.
Prosecutors accused both parents of neglecting their child’s mental health. Ethan complained about his bad mental health and hallucinations. Parents refused their son’s treatments as they believed that their son could not have mental health challenges.
Initially, Crumbleys were to be trialed together in March; however, in November sought separate trials. They faced separate trials on the same charges as James appeared in the Court on Thursday.
Jennifer Crumbley was charged with 4 criminally negligent homicides with a maximum sentence of 15 years for each killing.
Parents were charged by police within days of the killings and police had searched their house for evidence.
On the same day, school officials sent the student back to class without checking his bag and hours later shooting took place.
The relative and victim’s family were eased and relieved. Experts say that this case can serve as the foundation to charge parents of children for committing a crime.
Ethan Crumbley is the son of James and Jennifer Crumbley aged 17 years old was studying at Oxford High School in Michigan, United States.
