The death toll from the devastating earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand has risen to over 1,000, raising concerns that the number of fatalities may continue to climb.

According to global news agencies, the epicenter of the earthquake was near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, occurring at a depth of 10 kilometers underground.

Rescue teams are working day and night to pull people trapped under the rubble following the powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake.

In Mandalay, 694 deaths have been confirmed, although U.S. media sources suggest that the death toll could reach as high as 10,000.

The earthquake was so intense that its tremors were felt as far away as Bangkok, located 900 kilometers from the epicenter, resulting in the collapse of several key buildings and bridges.

The discovery of bodies continues as rescue operations proceed, with estimates suggesting the total casualties could be between 1,000 and 10,000.

Tremors were also felt in various parts of India, including Meghalaya, Manipur, and even in the capitals of Bangladesh, Dhaka and Chittagong. The effects reached China as well. In response to the calamity, the Thai government has declared a state of emergency in Bangkok.

On Friday, the collapse of an under-construction building in the city resulted in at least 10 fatalities, with around 100 construction workers reported missing.
