Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland were named the ICC players of the month for February 2024 on Tuesday.

The left-handed batter was rewarded for his record-breaking performance in the five-match Test series against England at home, where he scored 712 runs and became the second Indian batter after Sunil Gavaskar to score more than 700 runs in a bilateral.

Jaiswal beat competitors from New Zealand player Kane Williamson and Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka to win the award.

He was in top form against England in the World Test Championship series at home, slamming 219 in Vizag in the first innings of the second Test and then going on to make a second innings double century in the next Test in Rajkot to help India take a lead in the series.

Jaiswal’s knocks helped India fight back from a loss in the first Test of the series. The young Indian opener made several records in February and equalled the long-standing Test record for most sixes in a Test innings (12) during his Rajkot knock.

The back-to-back double hundreds at the age of 22 years and 49 days made him the third youngest batter in the world to record two double centuries in Tests after Sir Donald Bradman and Vinod Kambli.

“I’m really happy to achieve the ICC award and I hope I will be getting more in future,” Jaiswal said after he was informed about the award. “It’s one of the best and this is my first five-match series.”

Australia’s star all-rounder Annabel Sutherland has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for February 2024.

Sutherland became the fifth Australian player to claim the award, joining the esteemed ranks of previous winners Alyssa Healy, Rachael Haynes, Tahlia McGrath, and Ashleigh Gardner.

Sutherland, who scored 229 runs and claimed seven wickets in four matches in February 2024, beat competition from the UAE duo of Esha Oza and Kavisha Egodage to win the coveted prize.

The 22-year-old was thrilled to collect her maiden Player of the Month award.

“It’s a massive honour to be named the player of the month and a nice way to cap off a successful home summer for the team,” she said.
