The Indian Air Force’s indigenously-built Tejas fighter aircraft crashed in Rajasthan on Tuesday. The pilot ejected safely and landed on the ground without injuries, NDTV reported.

The aircraft crashed in the compound of a student hostel in Rajasthan state’s Jaisalmer during a training sortie and caught fire after the crash, it added.

This marked the first crash of Tejas since its first test flight in 2001. The Tejas, which has seen very little action, was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 2016.

Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force said that a probe has been ordered into the crash.

“One Tejas aircraft of the Indian Air Force met with an accident at Jaisalmer, today during an operational training sortie. The pilot ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry has been constituted to find out the cause of the accident,” the Indian Air Force said on X.

It is not clear whether the plane was part of the war games taking place in Rajasthan.
