PTI nominates Amir Dogar for NA speaker slot
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated Malik Aamir Dogar for the National Assembly speaker seat after PTI founder Imran Khan’s nod.
PTI leader Omar Ayub, who is the party’s candidate for the prime minister slot, said that the former prime minister nominated Junaid Khan for the post of deputy speaker in the NA.
Speaking to media outside Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, he alleged that the PTI was deprived of its 180 NA seats through rigging.
Ayub announced protests on March 2 along with other political parties against the alleged election rigging.
After the PTI was out of the Feb 8 election as a party, its candidates contested the polls as independents. The newly-elected independent members later announced to join the Sunni Ittehad Council in an attempt to secure reserved seats in the NA, Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies.
The PTI has nominated Ali Amir Gandapur for the chief minister slot of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He is set to contest the CM election as independent as he has also submitted papers of the party’s provincial president.
The PTI-SIC’s nominee for the Punjab chief minister was Mian Aslam Iqbal, however, the PTI leader took his name back over fears of his arrest.
Later, Rana Aftab was named the party candidate for the coveted slot of the CM. He got zero votes in the CM election as the SIC boycotted the election and PML-N’s Maryam Nawaz was elected the first woman CM of Punjab.
In Sindh, PPP’s Murad Ali Shah was up against the MQM-P candidate for the chief minister slot. Shah secured a comprehensive win after securing 112 votes.
