Either EMS a failure or controlled by someone behind veil, says RO
A returning officer from NA-197 in Sindh’s Qamabar Shahdadkot has expressed his reservations over the Election Management System (EMS).
In a letter to the Qambar Shahdadkot district returning officer, he complained about missing records in the system that would be used in the general elections.
“This weakness of [the] system has created many issues and also raises [a] question mark on the reliability and validity of the tool/ software. This shows that either the EMS System is an utter failure or there is a someone else that controls and manages the system behind the veil,” the election supervisor said.
The RO added that he had put polling staff details in the EMS, however, they went missing. It stated that the fault has raised questions over the validity and reliability of the system.
The letter comes a day after the ECP claimed that it conducted another successful trial of the EMS.
The returning officer claimed that he contacted the ECP and the National Database and Registration Authority, however, he did not receive any “positive response”.
“The EMS is creating problems instead of providing ease,” it said and added that the news system has become a problem for the ROs.
The RO warned that he would not be responsible if the matter was not resolved.
“Flaws in EMS can become a major hurdle in holding general elections,” it said.
