President Asif Ali Zardari was injured in an accident in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the President’s House spokesperson said on Thursday.

In a statement, the spokesperson said that the incident occurred last night when President Zardari disembarked from the plane at the Dubai airport and fractured his foot.

He was “immediately” taken to the hospital for initial medical assistance. After a check-up, doctors applied a plaster to his foot while he was in the hospital.

The spokesperson confirmed that the plaster will remain on the president’s foot for four weeks. He has since been transferred back home and advised to take complete rest.

PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari was sworn in as the 14th President of Pakistan on March 10, 2024 after winning a one-sided presidential election a day earlier.

Zardari, 69, was admitted to the hospital in September, 2022 in Karachi after suffering from “post-Covid health concerns”.

In December 2011, he was hospitalised in Dubai with a heart condition.
