Illegal nikkah case: Imran challenges Maneka to swear by the Quran
Proceedings in the illegal nikkah case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were adjourned after a marathon hearing on Thursday. Khan reportedly had a heated exchange with Bushra’s former husband, Khawar Maneka.
The case was heard by Judge Qudratullah in Adiala Jail for over 10 hours on Thursday, during which four witnesses appeared including Khawar Maneka, Awn Chaudhry, Mufti Saeed and Muhammad Latif.
Reports said that statements of three witnesses were recorded but tense exchanges took place during the hearing.
Bushra Bibi’s lawyer, Usman Riaz Gill, reportedly tried to punch Maneka as well.
Imran Khan maintained during the hearing that he had first seen Bushra on the day of his wedding. He added that he and his wife were ready to swear by the Holy Quran to prove his innocence.

Khan asked the judge to make Maneka swear by the Holy Quran as well.
In reply, Maneka told Khan that the latter was lying and had ‘destroyed’ his home.
However, the judge told Imran Khan could swear by the Quran but it would take away his right to cross examination.
At this Khan said he wanted Maneka to swear but also wanted to preserve his right to cross-examination.
The hearing is set to resume on Friday morning.
Khan has already been convicted in the cipher and Toshakhana cases. His wife, Bushra, has also been sentenced in the Toshakhana case to 14 years in prison.
