How will Imran Khan’s appeal proceed?
Even before the verdict in the cipher case was announced, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Barrister Gohar said that he had faith that there would be justice in the High Court and Supreme Court.
So how does Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s appeal work from here on?
Khan and Qureshi will have thirty days to file their appeal in the High Court. The thirty days will be deemed to begin when the written order of their conviction and sentencing is handed over to them.
As of a few hours after the hearing ended, the order had not been handed over.
After the appeal is filed, the chief justice of the High Court will fix a single-member bench to hear the appeal.
In case the appeal is rejected, or rejected and appealed by the other side, the matter will then be fixed infront of a divisional bench of the court, which will have two members.
The matter will then proceed to the Supreme Court will the appeal will be taken up once to appeal the High Court decision and then to review the SC’s own.
All in all, there can be upto four more rounds before the case is decided for good.
