Pakistan cricket fans raised questions over the delivery that resulted in the dismissal of skipper Shan Masood on the first day of the third Test between Pakistan and Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday.

Masood was first caught in the slips, however, a review of the delivery showed Mitchell Marsh had overstepped and the ball was declared no-ball.

On the no-ball check, the TV umpire Joel Wilson was shown pictures of Marsh’s foot well over the line, with Mohammad Rizwan standing at the non-striker’s end in the background.

Four overs later, the Pakistan skipper was caught again in the slips by Steve Smith on Marsh’s delivery. However, the TV umpire decided to check the front foot to make sure the bowler had not overstepped for the second time.

Wilson was again showed the replay of Marsh’s delivery stride, with his foot coming down behind the line this time and Masood was given out, leaving Pakistan on 96 for the loss of five wickets.

Hours later, fans spotted that the replay Wilson was shown could not have been of the delivery that dismissed Masood as he was seen on the non-striker’s end during the review to check for a no-ball.

When Masood survived due to a no-ball in the first instance, Rizwan was standing at the non-striker’s end. However, it was not Rizwan in the second instance and was actually Masood himself on the non-striker’s end during the shot of Marsh’s delivery stride for the no-ball check.

Fans were left wondering after they spotted the error which would mean that Masood would have to be present in two places at once, both facing the ball and at the non-striker’s end.

It would mean Marsh’s front foot on the delivery with which he dismissed Masood may have gone unchecked.

Pakistan were bowled out for 313 on day one in Sydney, with Australia finishing the day on six for no loss.
