FBR seals five restaurants in Islamabad for issuing fake invoices
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has intensified its efforts to combat tax evasion, announcing the sealing of five prominent restaurants in Islamabad for issuing counterfeit invoices and receipts.
This action follows reports from consumers indicating that these establishments were engaged in fraudulent practices.
The measures are part of FBR’s broader initiative to incorporate Tier-1 retailers and restaurants into the tax system through a Point of Sale (POS) invoicing framework.
Following an investigation using POS tracking software. According to FBR, a team from the Regional Tax Office (RTO) Islamabad, led by the Deputy Commissioner, confirmed the authenticity issues with the receipts and proceeded to seal the restaurants, imposing a total penalty of Rs. 1.5 million.
Additionally, FBR recently launched the Point of Sales Prize Scheme, effective from October 25. This scheme, initially introduced in Islamabad for Tier-1 restaurants, aims to expand to all Tier retailers nationwide by the end of the month.

Under this program, citizens who report counterfeit receipts via the Tax Asaan APP will be eligible for cash rewards.
Verified reports will result in direct cash prizes being transferred to the winners’ bank accounts, while the implicated restaurants will face closure for their infractions.
This initiative underscores FBR’s commitment to eliminating the culture of fake invoicing and ensuring that taxes are duly collected for the national treasury.
