The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday has once again deferred the indictment of former prime minister Imran Khan and former PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry in a case related to contempt of the commission and its chief.

A four-member bench of the ECP conducted the hearing on the case at the Adiala Jail, where both Imran and Fawad are kept.

The ECP bench deferred the indictment of both the accused and adjourned the hearing till December 27.

Meanwhile, Chaudhry submitted a plea to the ECP seeking an open trial for the proceedings on the case.

The former minister contended the jail trail saying that it violated law and the Constitution. In his petition, he said that he was not provided with the documents related to the case.

In the last hearing of the case, Khan could not be indicted due to the non-appearance of his lawyer Shoaib Shaheen.

The case is related to Khan and his two party leaders’ accusations, which according to the ECP are baseless, against the polls overseer. Khan in one of his speeches had claimed that the commission was biased. He had demanded that the CEC should step down.
