Three dead after Karachi building collapses following cylinder blast
A cylinder blast caused a two-story building in Karachi’s Machar Colony area to collapse, leaving three people dead and 17 injured, Aaj News reported on Monday.
Initial reports suggested that the two-story building collapsed following a cylinder blast in the nearby shop that killed three people and injured 17 people, including women and children.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arif Aslam Rao told the reporters that 17 injured people were shifted hospital and eight of them were wounded as they got stranded under the debris, while others were facing burn injuries.
Talking about the incident Rao said cylinders were being shifted to the shop from the filling station. The incident appeared after the one gas cylinder exploded which triggered explosions of cylinders were laid down with it.
According to rescue personnel, the injured were extracted from the building wreckage and were sent to the closest hospital for emergency medical attention.
He added immediately after the blast the building collapsed as the shop was located under the two-story building.
However, the rescue operation is continued at the affected place.
