The International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) is being observed on Saturday all over the world to highlight the crucial link between anti-corruption and peace, security, and development.

To prevent corruption, the United Nations designated the date of December 9 as World Anti-Corruption Day to raise awareness about corruption.

The theme of the year’s International Anti-Corruption Day ‘Uniting the World Against Corruption’ aims to avert the corruption practices from the world collectively.

According to the United Nations, the illness of corruption can be ended with collective efforts of States, government officials, civil servants, law enforcement officers, media representatives, the private sector, civil society, academia, the public, and youth alike all have a role to play in this.

The United Nations requested the world to join them on this day and to continue to build a world #UnitedAgainstCorruption.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres urged all governments to be transparent and accountable and to use the tools provided by the United Nations Convention against Corruption, reported Radio Pakistan.

In his message on the day, he said corruption in the time of COVID-19 has the potential to seriously undermine good governance around the world and to send us even farther off-track in our work to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

To address the corruption in the world the United Nations General Assembly adopted the United Nations Convention against corruption on October 31, 2003. Following the same, the observance of the day was first officially held on 9 December 2005.
