Pakistani neuroscientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s lawyer Clive Stafford Smith claimed that his client was subjected to sexual assault on multiple occasions during her incarceration.

Dr Siddiqui had personally confirmed the sexual assault at the US prison during a meeting between them, Smith told Geo News.

Dr Siddiqui was sentenced to 86 years of imprisonment by a US federal court in 2010 after being convicted of firing at US troops in Afghanistan while in their custody and other six charges against her.

According to the lawyer, Dr Siddiqui had also been sexually assaulted by the US investigators at Bagram jail in Afghanistan as an interrogation tactic.

Smith said that he investigated the matter of the sexual assault after Dr Siddiqui’s claims and found out that 12 security personnel at the US prison, where his client is currently being held, have been found of committing sexual violence.

According to him, Dr Siddiqui faces constant threats from security guards and other inmates at the US prison.

A day earlier, the incarcerated Pakistani neuroscientist met her sister Dr Fowzia for the second time in two years at a prison hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.

In a video on X, Dr Fowzia shared the update and described the situation as “today they got the key”.

Jail authorities did not allow to have social interaction with her sister, Dr Fowzia said and added that the FMC Carswell needed to be “shut down or a whole overhaul. It’s inhuman, cruel and ruthless.”
