A delegation of United States officials led by Assistant Secretary Julieta Valls Noyes arrived in Islamabad on Monday, sources said.

The delegation will meet Pakistani officials to discuss the repatriation of illegal refugees from the country, they added.

The two sides will also discuss the issue of 25,000 Afghan refugees currently living in Pakistan but slated for rehabilitation in Western nations, according to the sources.

Another two delegations are set to visit Pakistan during the ongoing month.

The United States Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West will be leading an American delegation to Pakistan for a meeting with top-level officials, sources said earlier.

The discussion will focus on the issue of 25,000 Afghan refugees currently living in Pakistan but slated for rehabilitation in Western nations, according to the sources.

The issue of terrorism in Pakistan, the use of Afghan territory for terrorist activities, and the strategy to eradicate the outlawed TTP and other terrorist organisations will also be discussed during the meeting.

However, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch later said that the visit of the US officials was part of the routine.

“Pakistan and the US have been partners for a long time. We hold dialogues with the US on the economy, education, climate change, defence, and security,” she told Shaukat Piracha on Rubaroo.
