CPI inflation surges to 26.9% in October

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation increased by 26.89% on a year-on-year basis in October compared with 26.6% in the same month of 2022.

On a month-on-month basis, it increased to 1.1% in October as compared to an increase of 2% in the previous month, data by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics showed.

The price of onions increased by 38.71%, vegetables by 17.74%, fruits by 6.49%, eggs by 6.05%, potatoes by 3.72%, fish by 3%, condiments and spices by 2.87%, beans by 1.51%, and Nimco was up by 1.38%.

In the non-essential items, electricity charges were up by 8.29%, marriage hall charges by 5.43%, drugs and medicines by 3.72%, education by 3.23%, Doctor (MBBS) clinic fee by 3.02%, woolen readymade garments by 2.36%, and Woolen Cloth surged by 1.89% among other items.

CPI inflation (Urban) increased to 25.5% on a year-on-year basis in October as compared to an increase of 29.7% in the previous month and 24.6% in October 2022.

On a month-on-month basis, it increased to 1.1% in the month under review as compared to an increase of 1.7% in the previous month and an increase of 4.5% in October 2022.

CPI inflation (Rural) increased to 28.9% on a year-on-year basis in October, as against an increase of 33.9% in the previous month and 29.5% in October 2022.

On a month-on-month basis, it increased to 1.1% in October 2023 as compared to an increase of 2.5% in the previous month and an increase of 5% in October 2022.
