Only illegal refugees being sent back, Kakar clarifies
On the last day of the deadline given to the illegal foreign refugees to leave the country, caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has clarified that only undocumented refugees are being asked to leave the country.
The refugees living in Pakistan without any documentation will be sent back to their country, he said while speaking to the media after visiting the Mayo Hospital in Lahore.
No country in the world allows illegal refugees to reside within its borders, he said, adding that anyone can visit Pakistan with a visa.
Kakar went on to add that confiscating anyone’s property was not the goal of the government as refugees leave the country.
Responding to a question regarding elections, the prime minister said that he was as eager for elections as anyone else in the country. However, he said that the date of the election has to be decided by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
He said that the constitution mentioned a lot more things other than elections and that he wanted a permanent government to look after the affairs of the country.
Kakar termed it beyond the mandate of the caretaker government to place a ban on the PTI, saying that Imran Khan’s ‘loyal’ candidates should contest the elections.
He said that the Special Investment Facilitation Council was created by the outgoing government and its reforms cannot be challenged on any forum.
He also expressed hope that the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund’s team, set to begin on November 2, would be successful.
