Nawaz Sharif’s lawyers have submitted a report in the Lahore High Court that says that the former prime minister still has some residual symptoms of heart disease and will require regular follow-ups.

The report, authored by Professor Carlo Di Mario of Royal Brompton Hospital in London, was submitted in court by Sharif’s lawyer Amjad Pervaiz.

The report says that Nawaz has undergone several procedures including bypass, angioplasties and ablations over the years for his heart condition.

It also says that persistent symptoms and the Covid-19 pandemic prevented Nawaz’s return to Pakistan earlier.

The report says that Nawaz has multiple comorbidities including diabetes due to which he will require frequent follow-ups ‘both in London and Pakistan’.

Although jailed on corruption charges, Nawaz left Pakistan after the Lahore High Court allowed him to travel abroad for treatment in 2019. After spending almost four years in self-imposed exile, he is set to return to Pakistan on October 21.
