The PPP suspended on Friday the party membership of Sardar Latif Khosa, one of the legal experts, and also ousted him from its central executive committee.

“The decision was taken after lawyer Khosa failed to reply to the show-cause notice issued to him by the party last week,” said a statement issued by the PPP.

The decision was taken by PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari.

On September 14, Khosa was issued a show-cause notice for “defending/pleading and representing [the] head of another political party without prior approval of [party] leadership”.

The show cause notice did not mention anyone by name, but the development had come after PTI Chairman Imran Khan called on Khosa. The lawyer had expressed hope of working with the legal team of the former premier.

In a fiery speech in Islamabad, Khosa criticised how Khan had allegedly been removed from office on the orders of a low-level US officer. He had also criticised how the PTI chief was being implicated in “frivolous cases”.

Khosa has been representing the PTI chief in several cases registered against him.

Later, party leader Faisal Karim Kundi confirmed the development while talking to reporters after the first day of the CEC meeting in Lahore. Khosa was invited to the CEC despite reports of violating party values.

“We have not expelled Latif Khosa Sb from the party. An answer has been sought from him through a show cause notice,” he said on September 14, “today because farewell [parties] are being held in honour of the CJP, both of our lawyers [Khosa and Ahsan] are in Islamabad because of which they could not come and excused us.”

Meanwhile, PPP Secretary General Bukhari has asked all provincial presidents of PPP to submit recommendations regarding candidates for national and provincial assemblies to the office of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari within 15 days.
