In response to Fazl’s claims, Bilawal says PPP never shied away from elections
The PPP was always ready for elections, party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Friday, a day after JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s claims that the former Sind-ruling party deviated from the early elections demand in February.
“Maulana Sb is a senior politician and I do not wish to go into much detail about the statement made by Maulana Fazlur Rehman,” he told reporters in Karachi. “But I will tell you this: PPP was ready for elections before, was ready for elections on May 14 was ready for elections in 60 days and is ready for elections in 90 days according to the Constitution.”
Fazl, who is also the head of PDM, blamed the PPP on Thursday for the delay in elections, alleging that the former Sindh-ruling party deviated from the plan. “At the last moment, the PPP deviated from the decision,” he told reporters in Lahore.
Without naming any party, the PPP chief went on to add that questions should be asked to those who always run away from elections.
“Even today, the PPP believes that the Election Commission of Pakistan should announce the election date and election schedule,” he said and expressed concerns over the powers used by the polls overseer.
The PPP chairman went on to add that there was a difference between how the PPP, the PDM and the ECP interpreted the Constitution. He added that the PPP believed that elections should take place within 90 days, adding that the rest thought that they should take place after the delimitation exercise was concluded.
He also took notice of the alleged double policy in the country, saying that the ECP has no right to shift officers until it announces the election schedule. Bilawal reminded the ECP that the rules were the same for every province of the country.
He wondered why the ECP just orders for halting development funds in Sindh and advised the commission to stop the federal government from announcing new schemes as it was not their duty.
Bilawal condemned the decision to stop work for the flood victims and demanded the ECP to lift all the restrictions and revive the development works.
