JIT formed to investigate social media campaign against judge
The federal government has formed a joint investigation team to investigate the social media trends being run against Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq.
The team will consist of four officers including one each from the Intelligence Bureau, the inster-Services Intelligence, the Federal Investigation Agency and the Islamabad police.
The JIT has been tasked to submit a report on the matter within 15 days.
Justice Aamer Faoorq had been the subject of vicious attacks on social media which came from accounts presumably affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The social media campaigns had even invited a response from the the law ministry which had called them ‘utterly reprehensible’.
It had also warned political parties from refraining from attacks against national institutions.
The campaign had came at a time when the IHC was hearing an appeal from Imran Khan seeking suspension of his sentnece in the Toshakhana case. The sentence was eventually suspended on Tuesday.
