Prime Minsiter Shehbaz Sharif has said that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan in September.

Speaking to Hamid Mir on Geo News, Shehbaz said that the elder Sharif will return ‘next month’.

When asked if the caretaker government could create problems for Nawaz upon his return, Shehbaz said he would face the law.

“He will not wear a bucket and there will no magical spells cast either,” Shehbaz said in an apparent reference to Imran Khan’s court appearances.

Shehbaz also said that not only will Nawaz participate in the election campaign but would also lead it.

When asked who would be prime minister if their party won, Shehbaz said that Nawaz would be PM and he himself would work under him as a ‘party worker’.

Nawaz has been in exile since 2019 and has mostly lived in London after being disqualified for life in the Panama Papers case. However, the government recently passed changes in the Election Act that imposes a maximum limit of five years for for disqualification which could open the door for his return.
