FBR freezes PIA accounts over unpaid taxes

The Federal Board of Revenue has frozen the accounts of the Pakistan International Airlines after the airline failed to pay its taxes.

FBR sources said that PIA owes Rs4 billion in taxes. The amount has already been collected from customers as Federal Excise Duty but was never handed over the tax body.

A PIA spokesperson confirmed that the accounts had been frozen by the FBR over non-payment of taxes.

However, the spokesperson added that flight operations had not been affected by the action and operations were conitnuing as normal.

The spokesperson also said that the PIA was engaging the FBR at government level to get is accounts unfrozen.
