In a major breach of security, jailed Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik was produced before the Indian Supreme Court without an order prompting the launch of an inquiry by the Indian authorities.

On Friday, Malik was produced in the SC from Tihar Jail without any summons. The administration of Tihar Jail stated that it was negligence on the part of the jail officials concerned, and an inquiry has been initiated.

A statement issued by the jail administration said that Malik was physically produced in the Supreme Court by the officials of Central Jail No 7 (Tahar) on July 21 in the matter of SLP No5526-5527/2022.

According to Indian media, Malik had written to the Supreme Court’s registrar on May 26, seeking permission to appear in person to plead his case.

The assistant registrar’s response on July 18 led the Tihar jail authorities to believe that the Kashmiri leader had to be presented before the court.

Malik, 57, is currently serving his sentence at Tihar jail.

The chief of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), pleaded guilty last year to funding terrorism after refusing to accept a government-appointed lawyer or to defend himself against the charges.

Earlier, Malik’s daughter Razia Sultana said that Indian PM Narendra Modi would be responsible if anything happens to her father.

“Today, let my voice carry for prime minister Modi that if my father is harmed in any way, I will blame you,” she said while addressing a special session of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Thursday. “How can such measure be considered democratic giving death sentence to Yasin Malik is a stigma on the face of India.”
