ECP issues non-bailable warrants for Imran, Fawad

Asad Umar filed an exemption request from appearing in person

The Election Commission of Pakistan issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and former party leader Fawad Chaudhry.

The warrants were issued in a case regarding ‘contempt’ of ECP.

A hearing of the case took place on Tuesday where even Fawad and Imran’s lawyers did not show up.

An associate of Fawad’s lawyer said that Fawad himself was in Lahore while his lawyer Faisal Chaudhry was engaged in the High Court.

However, Asad Umar filed a request to be exempted from in-person hearing as he had a medical appointment.

Umar’s lawyer argued that the exemption should be granted as he had been appearing regularly in the case.
