The Indian army has warned ex-serviceman that making statements agains the army on social media could lead to withholding or withdrawig pensions.

The Discipline and Vigilance branch of the army has sent out a note that says some people formerly in army service are posting videos on social media criticising the conditions under which soldiers live and serve in.

The note has warned that these videos are defamatory and could bring harm to the army’s reputation. It has also said that the ‘false narratives’ in the videos could cause rifts in the rifts between men and officers, and ultimately lead to dissonance in the institution.

The army has also noted that such videos posted to social media often become fodder for news channels and could be picked up by international media as well.

News reports say that the army is considering flagging channels and social media accounts posting such videos. Cases will also be filed against people posting such videos and pension withdrawals also may come into effect.
