The Asian Cricket Council responding to inbound Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Zaka Ashraf said that the Asia Cup will go ahead as planned.

Ashraf, who is favourite to take the helm after the departure of Najam Sethi, had rejected the hybrid model for the Asia Cup.

“I had already rejected the hybrid model for the Asia Cup because I don’t agree with it,” he told reporters in Islamabad.

He believes it is an “injustice” to Pakistan.

“It is not right to hold main matches outside Pakistan, which is the complete host of the event,” he said adding that “event should take place at home”.

He added that he would try to take the best possible decision for the country in the shortest time possible.

However, while responding to Ashraf’s statement, a board member of the ACC said that the model has been accepted by all parties.

“There would be no change,” a member was quoted by Hindustan Times. “Ashraf is free to say whatever he wants.”

As per the hybrid model, the first four matches of the tournament will be held in Pakistan, after which the event will shift to Sri Lanka for nine matches, including the final. The tournament is scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 17.
