A man found his sacrificial animal through social media on Tuesday, which was stolen in a Civic car from a housing society within the limits of Karachi’s Shahrah-e-Faisal police station.

Hasan’s sacrifice animal was stolen on June 18 from the Central Government Employee Cooperative Housing Society.

“The CCTV footage of the theft had also surfaced. I uploaded a video of the animal on social media, requesting people to help me find my animal,” he said.

Hasan got his animal back after two days thanks to social media when another citizen Sulaiman informed him that his animal was near his house in the city’s Liquatabad area.

“I was going through social media when I saw Hasan’s post. After identifying the animal, I reached out to Hasan and handed him over the animal,” Sulaiman said.

The investigation team of Shahrah-e-Faisal police station also reached the spot. The police said that the sacrificial animal has been returned to its owner, while investigations are under way to find the thieves.

Meanwhile, a cattle seller lost four of his sacrificial animals to armed robbers in the Yaqoobabad area of Orangi Town. The area falls in the Iqbal Market police station jurisdiction.

Hanif, a cattle seller, had brought 11 sacrifice animals to sell on the occasion of Eidul Azha, out of which four animals, worth Rs700,000 were snatched by the robbers on June 16.

According to Hanif, the animals were tied outside his home when seven to eight armed robbers took away four animals while they also took two cattlemen as hostages. The perpetrators let go of the cattlemen near the Northern Bypass.

The Iqbal Market Police registered the complaint after three days of the crime.

People in Karachi visit the Sohrab Goth Maweshi Mandi — claimed to be Asia’s largest cattle market — to buy the animals of their choice to sacrifice on Eid.

The Zilhaj moon was sighted on June 19, hence Eidul Azha will fall on Thursday, June 29, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee said. Moreover, the government announced Eid ul Azha holidays on Tuesday. The holidays were differently defined for offices working five or six days a week.
