Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’ member national assembly mahmood Moulvi announced that he is leaving the party after attacks on military installations on May 9.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Moulvi said he had joined PTI thinking it was a ‘civilised’ party but that had not turned out to be the case.

“My software was not updated, nor did anyone pressure me,” he said.

Moulvi had been elected from NA 245 in August 2022 after the seat was vacated by Amir Liaqat’s death. However, he had been part of the party since 2018. He also served as the advisor to the maritime affairs ministry during the PTI government.

Moulvi also claimed that the topic of retaliation against army incase of Imran Khan’s arrest had been discussed in PTI’s internal meetings but he had said any such action would push the country towards ‘civil war’.

He said that party’s like PMLN, PPP and PTI could come and go but the army was here to stay and ‘he couldn’t go against the army’. He also added that Pakistan’s survival was tied with the army’s.

However, he clarified that the resignation would not lead to the creation of a new political party.
