JIT formed to probe vandalism at civil, military installations in Punjab

Decision was taken during a meeting of interim government

The interim Punjab government has formed a joint investigation team to investigate vandalism at civil, and military installations in the province.

Interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi made the announcement during his visit to the head office of the Punjab Safe City Authority.

He said that the JIT will submit a comprehensive report to the government after completing the investigation.

Moreover, Naqvi also directed the Public Prosecution Department to ensure immediate trial in the cases in order to bring the elements to justice.

“Those involved in attacking Jinnah House, military, civil and private properties will be given exemplary punishment,” he said.

During the visit, he was briefed by Punjab Inspector General Usman Anwar on the prevailing security situation in the country.

As many as 2,790 PTI workers were detained by Punjab Police during different raids across the province, the spokesperson confirmed on Friday.

The spokesperson added almost 152 police officers and personnel were injured due to the clashes between police and PTI protestors while adding 72 vehicles of the Punjab police were burned.

Supporters of PTI started gathering in major cities after the party gave the call for protests against Imran Khan’s arrest in the Al Qadir Trust case.

Clashes were reported in Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, and Karachi.

Protest in Lahore began with workers gathering and chanting slogans at Zaman Park. Police used water cannons to disperse them.

A large crowd then gathered and marched towards Lahore’s cantt area. Most protestors marched on foot waving party flags and brandishing sticks.

PTI protestors set four police vehicles on fire near the corp commander’s house. Reports said that Section 144 has been imposed across the province.

Shanghai bridge on Ferozepur road was blocked by PTI supporters while a group of lawyers blocked GPO Chowk and chanted slogans.

A tense standoff between protestors and police led to stone pelting near Mall Road by PTI supporters. Police responded with baton charge and water cannons.
