Professor killed in Kandhkot over 5-year-old honour killing dispute
Professor Ajmal Sawand was killed on Thursday by armed Sundrani tribesmen near Ghora Ghat police station over an honour killing dispute.
Ajmal Sawand died on the spot when assailants opened fire on his car. He was travelling from Sukkur to his village Shalu Khan.
According to reporters from the area, Sawand had gone to inspect some of his lands in Kandhkot’s Katcha area. He did not tell anyone he was going. There had been a murder of a Sandrani tribesman there two days earlier. The Sandhranis thought that a Sawand tribesman was behind it and so they targeted Ajmal just because he happened to be a Sawan himself.
Sawand did his PhD in Computer Science in France and currently, he was serving as a Deputy Director at Sukkur IBA University.
On the other hand, in an alleged video gone viral on social media, some Sundrani tribesmen were seen celebrating the murder by aerial firing.
The tribal dispute between Sawand and Sundrani tribes started three years ago over honour killing; five people have been killed, including a woman.
The FIR of the murder has not yet been registered.
Moreover, police demolished the homes of the accused.
