Police officials and Workers of Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are standing face to face while PTI workers barricades police to arrest former prime minister Imran Khan in the Toshakana case, outside Zaman Park in Lahore on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

The Lahore High Court has barred the police from raiding Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence at least until 10am on Thursday.

Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh heard a petition from the PTI against the police action launched on Tuesday. The police and Rangers had already withdrawn from Zaman Park when the order was passed.

The court summoned the Punjab chief secretary and inspector general of police and both officials duly appeared before the single-member bench.

The IGP told the court that PTI supporters had burnt police vehicles and damaged government properties. Police wanted to arrest the culprits, he said.

Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh said he wanted “peace” in the city and was ordering a ceasefire.

The court told the police to stay 500 meters away from Khan’s residence at the Canal bridge and Dharampura. Even 200 meters would do, said the justice.

Justice Sheikh also said that a verdict on the PTI petition for the cancellation of Imran Khan from the Islamabad High Court was due soon and things will be clear by Thursday morning.

The court ordered authorities to remove blockades from the roads leading to Zaman Park.

It passed a short order stopping police from conducting the raid and adjourned for Thursday morning.

The court will resume hearing at 11am tomorrow.
