The Islamabad High Court granted bail on Tuesday to PTI chief Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case till March 9 and asked him to submit worth Rs100,000 surety bonds.

Imran thanked the court. He left for Lahore after getting bail from the court. Earlier in the day, the PTI chairman had secured bail in two cases in an anti-terrorism court and a banking court in Islamabad.

The PTI chief had moved the high court after a district and sessions court issued his warrants in the state gifts case. He had been ordered to appear in the sessions court by 3:30 pm. But, after not appearing despite a two-hour notice the court issued a non-bailable warrant. The court has adjourned proceedings in the case till March 7.

Imran Khan reached Islamabad to appear in four court cases where he was expected to request exemption from in-person appearance on medical grounds. He was summoned in a case regarding violation of section 144 by the ATC and in the prohibited funding case by the accountability court.

He departed his Zaman Park residence early on Tuesday and reached Islamabad shortly after noon. The former prime minister did travel by air. Instead, he used the motorway M2. A large number of party workers welcomed him at Zero Point in Islamabad.

Judge Rakhshanda Shaheen will preside over proceedings in Islamabad’s judicial complex in the prohibited funding case.

He will also appear in an anti-terrorism court in the same complex in a case regarding protests against the Election Commission.

He will then appear in a session court in the Toshakhana case and another criminal proceeding regarding attempted murder.

Foolproof security arrangements have been made around the judicial complex in Islamabad’s G-11 area, and the section of the road passing in front of the court has been closed for normal traffic.

All other cases lined up for today in the accountability court have been postponed, and only Imran Khan’s case will be heard today.

PTI shows security concerns

The PTI has expressed concerns about the security of Imran Khan as he leaves his Zaman Park home where he has been living under stringent security measures since the November 3 life attempt on him.

Khan will be traveling around 400km to Islamabad accompanied by dozens of party leaders and workers. His motorcade left Zaman Park at around 8am on Tuesday. It was showered with rose petals and escorted by security vehicles.

The official PTI Twitter handle, using the hashtag #آرہا_ہے_کپتان_اسلام_آباد (Kaptaan is coming to Islamabad), said that Imran Khan was coming to Islamabad despite being injured.

Without instructing party workers to come to the court, it announced that Khan would be at the Judicial Complex in G-11.

Musarrat Jamshed Cheema, a PTI spokesperson, said that Khan still faced security threats and is being asked to arrive at a place marked unsafe for him.

His security is the responsibility of the state and if any conspiracy is hatched, those who are summoning him again and again will be held responsible, she said referring to the courts.
