Imran says Jail Bharo Tehreek an attempt to seek justice, sets key targets
After announcing a Jail Bharo Tehreek — a form of political protest that involves political activists presenting themselves to police for arrest — PTI Chief Imran Khan has set a target, which may prove ambitious or modest depending on how people react to his call.
Sources told AaJ News that Imran Khan has instructed the party leaders that at least 400,000 party activists should present themselves for arrest in the Jail Bharo Tehreek, or movement.
In his latest address to supporters on Monday, Imran Khan said he had given the call for a Jail Bharo Tehreek to get justice because PTI supporters were being picked up from their homes and subjected to torture. Some of them had lost mental balance due to torture, he said.
Imran Khan said the entire nation was looking up to the courts for justice.
He said if the current government tried to postpone election, it will be violating Article 6 of Constitution. “It has been twenty to twenty-five days since the assemblies were dissolved and if they go beyond 90 days, the Constituion is clear that Article six will apply,” he said.
Imran Khan first spoke about Jail Bharo Tehreek in a video address over the weekend. He told his workers to “get ready” and wait for his call for the Jail Bharo Movement.
Khan did not provide more details about his plan for this unusual form of protest, which he said was one of the only two options left, the other being taking to the streets once again.
In his address, Imran Khan did not specify when the Jail Bharo Tehreek will begin or how PTI workers will present themselves to police for arrest.
However, sources say the party has started preparations for the Jail Bharo Movement and targets have been assigned to regional and district organizations across the country.
Party sources say that a list was being prepared of workers who will offer themselves for arrests.

According to the instructions of the party chairman, the Jail Bharo Movement will proceeded in 3 phases, the party sources said.
In the first phase, central leaders and former parliament members will offer themselves for arrest.
