Police have the most corrupt image in Pakistan: report
Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) released its National Corruption Perception Survey (NCPS) 2022 on Friday.
The report ranks multiple departments in terms of how corrupt they are perceived to be on a daily basis by the public and business community.
It also provides a comparison of what each of the most perceptibly corrupt department’s ranking was last year.
For the second straight year police were perceived to be the most corrupt department in Pakistan. The judiciary went from second in 2021 to third in 2022. The second spot this year was taken up by tender and contracting.
Education showed one of the worst changes from the last year from the seventh spot in 2021 to fourth spot in 2022.
Custom and Excise, which had not been in the top nine for the last two years, is back on the sixth spot. Local government improved one spot from six in 2021 to seven in 2022.
Corruption is seen as a major issue in Pakistan and its allegations are a common part of the political rhetoric. However, any drastic change has not materialised in recent years.
