Apple has released the iOS 16.1.2 on Wednesday – a third update within a month. It comes just three weeks after iOS 16.1.1.

With this, iPhone users are now getting an important security update for the latest iOS 16. It also fixed the bugs for iMessage, Facetime activation issues and camera zoom jitter.

So what is new in the latest update?

The new operating system update includes some security updates, improved compatibility with wireless carriers and improvements to crash detection in the iPhone 14 lineup.

It is reported that with Crash Detection, the iPhone 14 lineup can automatically make an emergency service call when the phone detects a car crash.

How Apple’s Crash Detection works?

According to 9to5Mac, a month ago, a small number of users complained that the feature was erroneously called the when they were on a roller coaster. The company explained that the feature uses G-force sensors combined with other data to detect a crash, acknowledging that G-force on a roller coaster could fool the system.

It’s unclear how exactly Apple is improving Crash Detection with iOS 16.1.2.

How to install the new update?

Users can now update their devices to the latest iOS version by going to the Software Update menu within the Settings app.

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Tap General.

  3. Tap Software Update.

  4. Tap Download and Install and follow the on-screen prompts.

Which iPhone models are receiving the new update?

The new iOS 16.1.2 is available for an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or newer model.
