Army chief continues farewell visits

Gen Bajwa visits Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: As part of his farewell visits, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited various setups of the Army Medical Corps on Saturday.

Lieutenant General Nigar Johar, Surgeon General Pakistan Army accompanied the army chief COAS during the visit. He visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalpindi and was briefed by the hospital’s Commandant Major General Muhammad Mohsin Qureshi regarding upgrade of facilities.

The army chief visited the newly-established control room at the hospital. It helps train doctors through live surgery.

The army chief lauded the medical corps for providing quality health care and state-of-the-art rehabilitation services to members of the armed forces, their families and civilian patients.

It includes a facility for the families of martyrs and veterans which provides free basic healthcare including blood sampling, medicines and check up.

The pharmacy has been upgraded and caters to 3,000 patients daily, the army chief was told.

General Bajwa also laid the foundation stone of a new training block of Armed Forces Post Graduate Institute during the visit.

Later, the army chief inspected some new additions, including the soldiers’ guestrooms, the army help centre and the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology.

Earlier on his arrival at the hospital, Gen Bajwa was receicved by Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, who is the commander of the Rawalpindi Corps. He is also one of six men in the running for the post of the army chief after Gen Bajwa’s retirement on November 29.
