Millionaire businessman Umar Farooq Zahoor has claimed to be the buyer of the gifts sold by Imran Khan and said that he used to meet Imran Khan’s former adviser on accountability, Shahzad Akbar, who called him for selling the rare Graff watch.

The Dubai based businessman of Pakistani origin claimed while speaking with a private TV channel that he has full evidence to prove that he bought the rare Graff watch gifted by Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman to the then prime minister Imran Khan from Shahzad Akbar. He said that he also bought three other Toshakhan gifts for 7.5 million Dirhams from Akbar.

He said that Akbar informed him that Farah Gogi, a close friend of former first lady Bushra Bibi, would bring the watch and the rest set to him.

“I liked the watch very much and was instantly interested because these items are rare and priceless,” the businessman said and added that Farah told him that it had been given as a gift to the “prime minister by the Saudi Crown prince, if you want to buy it, it can be sold”.

He said that when he took the watch to a Graff merchant for verification, the merchant was surprised to see the watch, and said that the price of this precious watch set was between 10 to 15 million dollars.

Zahoor claimed that he managed to buy the watch set for two million dollars.

He said Farah insisted on giving the money in cash. “I withdrew $2 million from the bank and gave it to Farah,” he added.

The businessman further claimed that after purchasing the watch, Akbar started making demands and was later blackmailed and fake cases of money laundering were registered against him by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) under Shahzad Akbar after he refused to listen to demands.

“My biggest mistake was buying this expensive watch because I was flagged as a rich person and an extortion campaign was started against me using all the government institutions including the former prime minister’s cabinet. Akbar was given full approval to go after me. . Interpol was misused in trying to extradite me to Pakistan through a red notice.”

Imran Khan retained gifts worth Rs800,200 for free

Imran Khan had said in a statement that he sold gifts from the Toshakhana and constructed a road outside his house, which would also benefit the people.

In his reply submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) last month through his counsel and PTI Senator Barrister Ali Zafar, Khan disclosed that some 329 official gifts were received when the PTI was in federal government.

He stated that out of these gifts, 58 were received by him and his wife, and only 14 of these gifts were valued at more than Rs 14,000 each.

According to Cabinet Divisions documents Khan paid a total of Rs38.17 million against the gifts retained worth Rs142.0421 million. It is worth mentioning here that Khan also retained gifts worth Rs800,000 for free.
