T20 World Cup: Another upset, Scotland beat West Indies in qualifying round
Scotland beat West Indies in the qualifying round match of the T20 World Cup in Hobart on Monday while defending a low total against the former champions.
West Indies batsman Jason Holder was an alone fighter with the bat scoring 38 runs in 33 deliveries. He also picked 2 wickets for 14 runs in his 3 overs spell.
Scotland opener George Munsey was brilliant with the bat scoring 66 runs in 53 balls. He hit 9 boundaries while maintaining the strike rate of 124.
Mark Watt was the star bowler for Scotland. He picked three wickets in four overs at an economy rate of three.
Player of match George Munsey said ‘we gave it our all in the field and Mark Watt was brilliant,’ adding that it got trickier as the ball went old but he enjoyed it.
“The injury is not that okay and the team will see what they have to do with it,” Munsey said while talking about his injury.
West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran called it a ‘tough loss’. “We need to play better in the coming days which are a must-win”, Pooran said while admitting team’s mistakes.
“It was hard work and it is a special win for us,” Scotland Captain Richie Berrington said while speaking on their memorable win. He credited the bowlers by saying “I am very pleased with them.”
It is pertinent to mention here that West Indies are the only side in world cricket to have won World T-20 title two times in 2012 and 2016, and is considered one of the best teams of the shorter format.
