WAZIRABAD, Punjab: A man has shot dead his 18-year-old sister in Gujranwala’s Wazirabad over suspicions that she was in a relationship.

The first information report (FIR), which is available with Aaj Digital, was filed at the Saddar police station on the complaint of the victim’s mother.

The woman, who is a widow, said that her 26-year-old son Babar Ali, who is married, entered the room where she and her teenage daughter were sleeping.

He was armed with a pistol when he barged into the room at 3am on the night between September 14 and 15.

“He started abusing my daughter and then shot her twice,” she said. She was shot in the left arm. The second bullet hit her in the front of the neck and she died on the spot.

“My son unjustly murdered my daughter over suspicions. This is a travesty and I demand action against my son for this killing in the name of honour,” she said.

The police have registered the complaint under sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 311 (killing on the pretext of honour).

The body was sent for a post-mortem.

The accused remains at large with police conducting raids for his arrest. However, often in such cases, which are common in this area, the attacker will stay away for a few months and then return home. The families forgive the murderer under Islamic law and the case is withdrawn or closed.
