FAISALABAD: The medical report of the Faisalabad student, whose torture and harassment allegedly at the hands of her friend’s father and family, has suggested evidence of sexual abuse, with a local court handing over the main accused to police on a five-day physical remand.

Five other suspects have already been remanded, including the four people believed to the guards of the main accused and a woman. The FIR states that the woman is the secretary of the primary accused but she later told the media that she is married to Shaikh Danish, the main accused.

The case first emerged on Tuesday after videos of a girl getting tortured and abused went viral on social media. In the videos, the voice of a man and a woman can be heard as someone chops off her hair. In another video, the girl is ordered to kiss shoes as an apology. A woman’s voice tells her to ensure her tongue is visible and is licking the shoes. Someone then places several pairs of shoes and slippers in front of the girl, with the captive girl doing their bidding.

It immediately went viral on social media, with #faisalabadincident as well as #JusticeForKhadija trending. Since then, Shaikh Danish and Anna Danish Shaikh, the father-daughter duo believed to be responsible for the torture, have also become a trend, with people sharing the images of the two and calling for strict legal action and social and commercial boycott.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the day the videos went viral, the woman who was tortured and filmed filed a complaint at the women’s police station in Faisalabad.

The first information report (FIR) states that girl is a dentistry student at the Madina University. She studied with one Ana Shaikh, the daughter of the primary accused identified as industrialist Shaikh Danish Ali. The complaint says that Anna joined the father in the torture and filming.

The victim states that as she was friends with Anna, she would also visit her house. In one such visit, she felt that her friend’s father - twice her age - was trying to get too close for comfort. Upon this, she stopped visiting her friend’s house. At this, the girl Anna started calling the victim, suggesting that she marry her father while threatening to get her killed if the proposal was turned down. The complaint says the victim turned down the offer and cut off all contact with her friend.

On August 9, the complaint states, the accused came over to her house and abducted her and her brother, who was visiting from England. The abduction took place in the presence of the girl’s mother and her brother’s two friends.

The complaint states that the abductors also took two iPhones (including an iPhone 13) as well as half a million in cash and two gold bangles worth Rs4,50,000 from her house.

The accused took the complainant and her brother to their residence, where they tortured and filmed her. This includes cutting her hair and shaving off her left eyebrow, along with make her lick shoes as an apology.

The complaint states that the victim was also forced to perform oral sex, and that the accused had made videos of the same as well. The medical report of the victim has suggested evidence of sexual abuse.

The accused threatened to upload the video of oral sex unless the victim paid Rs1 million, says the FIR.

The FIR includes the following sections:

  • Section 376 (rape)
  • Section 382 (theft with preparation to kill, hurt, restraint)
  • Section 354 (stripping woman of her clothes)
  • Section 342 (wrongful confinement)
  • Section 337 (hurt that cause rupturing of skin, bleeding; hurt that endangers life; uprooting hair)
  • Section 148 (armed with deadly weapon)
  • Section 149 (common intention)

Following a preliminary hearing a day earlier, the court handed over four accused Khan Mohammad, Shoaib, Faizan and Asghar to the police on two-day physical remand. The woman, Maham, was sent to prison on judicial remand.

Wife, secretary or mother?

While the FIR stated that Maham was the secretary, the woman later said that she is married to Sheikh Danish Ali. She is not the mother of the accused, Anna Shaikh, who Sheikh Danish fathered with his now-divorced first wife, SSP Inestigation Captain Ajmal told Aaj News.

She told the court that she was not involved in the violence. The woman also claimed that the victim was not kidnapped, as stated in the FIR, and that she came to the house of the main accussed on her own along with her brother.

She claimed that the victim ran a gang that blackmailed people, while claiming to share the proof soon.

She claimed that the accused Anna Shaikh is 13 years old and not a friend of the victim.

Weapons, liquor seized

Meanwhile, police raided the residence of Shaikh Danish, who is in police custody, while the daughter Anna Shaikh is missing. A large number of weapons and bottles of liquor were recovered from Sheikh Danish’s house. A separate FIR has been registered in the case of the illegal liquor.

Meanwhile, the cybercrime wing of the FIA has taken into custody the mobile phones of the victim as well as teh accused to send them to Lahore for forensics.
