Balochistan government spokesperson Farah Azim Shah said Wednesday that 5,000 houses were damaged due to torrential rains and flash floods in Balochistan.

“Rain and flood damaged roads and bridges across the province,” the spokesperson said while addressing a press conference in Quetta.

She said no major dams were damaged in the flooding caused by the rain. “However, 1,000 small dams were damaged on which rehabilitation work is underway,” she said, adding that the Balochistan chief minister was monitoring the relief activities personally.

“Kech, Turbat, Lasbela, and Jhal Magsi are the most affected areas,” she informed.

The Balochistan Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) along with district administration and other departments are continuing relief and rescue operations in the rain-affected areas, she added.

Meanwhile, the route from Karachi to Quetta has been cut off in the latest damage caused by monsoon rains in Balochistan.

104 people have died so far in rain and flood-related incidents in the province, the PDMA said in a statement, adding that women and children were among the people killed.

Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo expressed satisfaction over the rescue operation and appreciated PDMA for saving precious lives.

The chief minister has also issued directives to use all possible resources to provide relief to the people stranded in flood-hit areas.
