PTI Chairperson Imran Khan has accused incumbent Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of ‘taking over’ the Federal Investigation Agency to ensure that money laundering cases against him and his son Hamza Shehbaz go away.

Addressing the PTI labour wing, the former premier accused PM Shehbaz of stealing and then burning the record of Lahore Development Authority records to hide his corruption.

PM Shehbaz and his son Hamza are prime suspects in Rs16 billion money laundering case. The agency decided against prosecuting them three days before a special Lahore court was set to indict them. The Supreme Court has since taken suo motu notice of the perceived interference of the government in prosecutiorial matters.

He went on to say that those who were labelling each other as thieves were now united.

The PTI chairperson said that the “imported government” had filed eight false FIRs against him. “No one was falsely accused during our government’s tenure,” Imran added.

Imran Khan accused the incumbent government of making the election commission a “political wing” of the ruling party, saying that the government was trying to destroy the election watchdog.

Lashing out at the opposition leader in the National Assembly Raja Riyaz, the former premier said that appointment of the ‘turncoat’ as NA opposition leader was the death of democracy.

Speaking about the PTI-led government’s performance during the pandemic, the ousted premier said that his government had not imposed a lockdown and had not closed the construction and textile sector.

“The opposition even stressed that they will register a case against me if I do not impose lockdown in the country but I still stood firm on my decision,” he said, adding that later the whole world admitted that Pakistan saved the economy during coronavirus.
