See how Pakistan’s inflation compares to the global rate
Inflation has hit its highest level in decades in many countries, with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine pushing up energy and food prices and squeezing households’ real incomes.
The Financial Times has created a graph for global inflation and added comparative data on how countries measure against it.
The inflation graph of Pakistan has risen and the GDP graph has fallen significantly in the last two years.
“Price pressures and growth downgrades have increased, triggered by the conflict. Some economists fear a return to the chronic inflation and recessionary environment of the 1970s,” the newspaper said.
Higher inflation is also spreading beyond energy to many other consumer items, especially in countries where demand is strong enough for businesses to pass on higher costs.
