Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the federal budget for next fiscal year presented “significant improvement” in several ways, adding that it provided targeted subsidies for “financially weaker people”.

“It has provided more educational opportunities for our youth, particularly from Balochistan. More importantly, it has taxed non-productive assets of the rich,” the prime minister said in a tweet on Sunday.

The government on Friday had presented the budget for FY 2022-23, with Finance Minister Miftah Ismail saying that the government would encourage the people to buy local instead of the imported items.

The finance czar while representing the budget had blamed the PTI-led government for inflation and said that it was because of the previous government the country “has the third highest rate of inflation”.

Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Imran Khan has rejected the budget for next fiscal year, alleging that the government did not allocate funds for the people of tribal areas.

“Imported government has budgeted only Rs 110bn, reduced development funding, zero allocation for displaced persons and zero increase in current budget. Shows incompetence and ill intent of govt of crooks,” the PTI chairman said in a tweet on Sunday.
