It’s all about the team combination, says world’s best limited-overs batter
With several national team cricketers on a hot streak in international leagues - including the English County Championship, Pakistan all-format captain Babar Azam said on Wednesday that form is temporary and team combination necessary to win games.
“For me a good team is consistent and you have to give regular chances to players. My theory is to play players consistently,” he said while addressing a press conference at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
Babar, who is the world’s top limited-overs (both ODIs and T20Is) batter, would be leading the green shirts in the home series against West Indies. The three-match ODI series begins on June 8.
Babar opined that a player or the team combination would only be changed if any player was unfit or not performing well. Babar praised the players’ performance in England’s county league, adding that playing in a big-league improves performance.
“It’s a dream to become a top-order batter in all three formats of the game. And for this you have to put extra hard work and focus,” said Babar, who won the International Cricket Council Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year Award this year in January.
To a query about his successor, he said that every player in himself was a leader, adding that Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan lead the team well.
