Indian singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away on Tuesday after a performance in Kolkata, leaving fans and the film fraternity devastated.

“He gave a performance at Nazrul Mancha [in Kolkata] on Tuesday and later went to his hotel where he fell ill. He was brought to a hospital where he was declared dead,” Hindustan Times reported.

KK, who began his singing career as a playback singer in 1990s, sung hit many songs like Tadap Tadap from Sanjay Leela Bansali’s Hum Dil Dey Chueke Sanam, Zara Sa from Jannat, Khuda Jaane from Bachna Ae Haseeno, and Ankhon Mei Teri from Om Shanti Om.

The singer is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

#RIPLegend and #EmraanHashmi were among top trends in social media soon after the demise of the Indian singer.

Indian politicians and the film fraternity took to Twitter to share their grief over the death of singer.

“Saddened by the untimely demise of noted singer Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as KK. His songs reflected a wide range of emotions as struck a chord with people of all age groups,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet.

“Heartbroken” Harshdeep Kaur said: “The voice of love is gone.”

Indian comedian Vir Das also took to Twitter to offer condolences.

“Extremely sad and shocked to know of the sad demise of KK. What a loss! Om Shanti,” said superstar Akshay Kumar.
