ISLAMABAD: The Spokesperson Foreign Office on Sunday categorically rejected the notion of any delegation from Pakistan visiting Israel.

Responding to media queries, he said the reported visit in question was organized by a foreign NGO which was not based in Pakistan.

“Pakistan’s position on the Palestinian issue is clear and unambiguous. There is no change whatsoever in our policy on which there is complete national consensus.”

He said Pakistan steadfastly supported the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination.

“The establishment of an independent, viable and contiguous Palestinian state with pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in accordance with the relevant UN and OIC resolutions, is imperative for just and lasting peace in the region,” he added.

Earlier, Israel President Isaac Hergoz has said that he met a delegation of overseas Pakistanis during the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

Herzog said that he had received two delegations last week which showed “the great change”.

“One was a delegation of young opinion-makers from Morocco who have aligned on Facebook with an Israeli [group]. They both came and sat with us for an hour and it was just amazing to listen to the experience of breaking barriers and moving forward and intertwining with each other,” he said.

The visit of the Pakistani-American delegation was organized by a US-based non-government organisation (NGO), the American Muslim and Multifaith Women’s Empowerment Council, and an Israeli NGO, Sharaka.

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal also rejected the notion of any official or semi-official Pakistani delegation meeting the Israeli president.

“The participants in this delegation were Pakistani-Americans who have already explained themselves,” he wrote on Twitter.

The minister added that the policy of the “government of Pakistan is clear and it does not recognize the state of Israel.”
